Richard Scott from Palmyra, Ohio is the crew chief for the Fred Sanders’ Pulling Team of Ravenna, Ohio, but he is also a top-notch driver for the “Silver Bullet I”, a beautiful V-8 Mack powered SuperLiner that is a former BigRigs Champion. On Friday night at the Warren County Fair in Pittsfield, Pennsylvania, Scott showed the modified semi truck ranks that he is going to be a major factor again in the 2011 point race with a stirring three-way win in a pull-off. With his win, Scott has now moved back into first place in Big Rigs points.
The “Silver Bullet I” is a triple turbo-charged 998 cubic inch E-9 Mack that is about as smooth of a ride as there is within the Big Rigs community. The truck has come back from major engine explosions to perform flawlessly under the handy guidance of Richard Scott. Scott received the huge trophy from the Fair Queens in a special ceremony at the trackside. Warren County is known for their beautiful hardwood trophies that are presented to each of the USA=EAST class winners.
At the Warren County Fair, Scott had to deal with a string of very powerful adversaries including his own boss and team owner, Fred Sanders who drove the “Silver Bullet II” to a mark of 299.41 – just missing the pull-off. “SB II” has been completely rebuilt for 2011 and is fitted with a Cummins QXK-19 engine with four turbos.
Joining Scott in the pull-off was Dick Bonner from Mantua, Ohio just back from Indianapolis, Indiana and a first place finish in the storied “Indy Super Pull” with his Mack V-8 called the “Killer”. That truck finished 2nd in the pull-off at Pittsfield. Also making a full pull was last year’s winner at the Warren County Fair, Joe Giulitto from Ravenna, Ohio. Giulitto’s “Sneeky Pete” Peterbilt has a huge single turbo-charged CAT 3406 for power and was the winner on the previous night in Ohio State competition in Mansfield, Ohio but could only get third place on this night.
The Big Rigs now take a short break before returning to the track at the Crawford County Fairgrounds in Meadville, Pennsylvania on Friday, August 26 at 7:00pm.
