BIG RIGS ‘FINALS’ CANCELLED
“SNEEKY PETE” WINS 2012 CROWN
The Big Rigs Pulling Series “Finals” scheduled for the Bloomsburg Fair in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania on Saturday, September 24th have been cancelled. The cancellation was necessitated when the largest Fair in the state of Pennsylvania had to make the painful decision to cancel their entire Fair for 2011.
Two weeks ago the northeast Pennsylvania region was hit by two tropical storms in succcession. The tremendous amount of rainfall resulted in the Susquehanna River overflowing its banks and completely flooding the town of Bloomsburg and the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds. At one time the track area in front of the main grandstand was submerged under sixteen feet of water. Folks on the Fair told FPP that you would have to sit in the 10th row of the grandstand in order to stay dry and that the new stage was covered by two feet of water.
Thus the tie that existed for the Big Rigs after the important Labor Day events will not be broken ‘on the track’ as was highly anticipated. The winner of the Big Rigs Series Point Race for 2011 will be determined by the first ‘tie-breaker’ which is ‘most wins in the series’. And this summer Joe Giulitto and “Sneeky Pete” took four first-place finishes – Brookville; Butler; Pittsfield and Burton. Richard Scott and “Silver Bullet I” had just two first place finshes – Meadville and Canfield. So on the 20th anniversary of the Big Rigs Pulling Series, the CAT-powered Peterbilt from Ravenna, Ohio will grab the crown.
This is the first season championship for Joe Giulitto and “Sneeky Pete” and keeps alive a super streak where no truck has won the championship twice since the year 2000. Richard Scott and “Silver Bullet I” had been the champion in the year 2008. It also ends a string of five straight years when a Mack truck has sat atop the Big Rigs Series.
The Big Rigs champion as well as all other USA-EAST champions for 2011 will be honored at the annual awards banquet scheduled for October 15th in Jamestown, Pennsylvania.
